Nocturnal Innocence

Deep in the night, I couldn’t sleep
Dreams escape me and in their stead: emptiness and fear
My son slumbers, drifting off to fabled lands
I approach him, quiet; lay by his side
The air; sweet, calm; surrounds him
Rest my head next to his and see his imaginings:
Robots, scorpions, dinosaurs…all blue
He stirs, I rise and leave

For Peace and Love, I do it.
A symbol of love’s complete success, he is
Pure and innocent
He to his family and they to him
To be young
Without ire, ill will, or expectation
Each day is, what it is…a slice of life
To be Loved
I sleep.
